Online Tool to Verify a South African ID Number

With this tool, you can easily check if a South African Identity Number is valid. Submit a 13 digit South African ID number and get the result as well as their age, gender and whether they are a citizen or not.

Please note: This tool only checks if the ID number provided is valid in terms of it passing specific criteria. It does not check if the number is on Home Affairs’ systems and will NOT certainly will not provide any information regarding anyone with that ID number.

  Hi Steven. Unfortunately not. This just checks if an ID number is valid, ie. it passes the algorithm and isn’t just random numbers.

How does a person not born in South Africa have an ID that says country of birth is South Africa?

  One can apply for citizenship or permanent residency. Once you become a South African citizen or a permanent resident, you must apply for an ID as well. Your country of birth will always be constant so I’m not sure why the ID number of someone not born in SA will say they are. Keep in mind, the ID validation never checks for country of birth, only citizenship and residency.
